EASTERN CANADA ROAD TRIP 2019

The trail to Baker’s Brook Falls was maybe my favorite in Gros Morne National Park. It was 10 k (so about 6.2 miles), and traversed through varied terrain, most of it flat until you get to the end of the trail and hike down stairs to get to the waterfall overlooks.

We crossed boggy areas via a boardwalk, where orchids and iris were blooming on either side.

Then we passed through forested areas, some where the ground had swelled up and made beautiful mossy humps.

There were also meadows, where we walked through flowers as tall as us.

There was some mud at points (but then again, this is Newfoundland) and we actually find that to be pretty fun.

I just can’t say enough about the many types wildflowers along this trail. Folks say that you can see moose frequently, though we did not. Unless you count Lyle, who a fellow hiker called “the smallest moose I ever saw.” This was the longest hike my seven-year-old daughter had done, and she didn’t complain until the last mile. That really speaks to the ease of the trail and the variety of things there was to see along the way. And to the fact that I really should buy her some hiking boots before our next adventure!
