Dubois Rodeo Panning

Panning is a tough technique to master, and I am far from doing that. But I had fun trying at the Dubois Rodeo. I love the motion that results from trying to track the subject while it is moving. It’s really difficult to get the right part in focus - the eye of the horse and the face of the rider are the most important. This was the best panning shot I took all night. It’s not perfect, but I really like it. The rider’s purple shirt just pops, and really is harmonious with the aqua decorations on the horse.

Rodeo Kid Fun

I love how a rodeo is truly fun for all ages. There were several things the kids could participate in, and the smiles on their faces were priceless.

Dubois Rodeo Girls Barrel Racing

Our very last photo session at the Wind River Photographers’ Retreat was at the Friday night Dubois Rodeo. I very much enjoyed shooting the girls barrel racing. They enjoyed the last bit of light before the sun set, and the looks of determination on their faces were so inspiring. Plus check out the details on the saddle blankets and bridles. They were the best-dressed horses of the night.

Three Amigos

I thought these folks made for a beautiful image, nestled as they were against that huge rock face with sagebrush behind them.
