Chestnut Trees

Victoria Beyer

These two chestnut trees sit at the back of my property. You can't tell from this picture quite how large they are. I think the bigger one is at least 100 years old. But it's not going to get any older. This was the last year they put out any leaves, and there were only a few. My arborist did not know what had happened, only that they were dying. Right now they have lost all their leaves and stand skeleton against my fence. I'm so grateful I got this picture a couple of years ago, but I just can't quite wrap my head around why two mature trees would just up and die. It saddens my heart.

Fall Run Park

I have really been enjoying Fall Run Park lately. It’s a beautiful walk where you cross several bridges, through the forest and along a creek that slips down a few waterfalls, big and small. My kid loves to climb this one up to where that shelf is, and slide down. Apparently it’s a little hard on the tailbone but that doesn’t seem to dampen her enthusiasm.

One more big plus - you can walk your dog here and there are garbage cans at either end of the trail!

Looking Down on the Trail

Looking Down on the Trail No2 VSCO.jpg

Here's an old shot - taken from the bridge at Kinzua State Park here in Pennyslvania. This place is worth a visit in any season. There's a museum that tells the story of the railroad bridge that used to span the gorge, but was destroyed by a tornado. There is now an overhang built in the same spot, and the view is incredible.

Autumn Barn

2019-09 Annies House (142) FIX.jpg

After my time in Wyoming I find myself back in Pennsylvania, getting back into routines (school in person this year for my daughter - how novel!) and back to renovations on my 100-year-old home. I still pick up my camera, but less often than when I am unencumbered in the summer. But autumn is here, and the leaves will be turning soon. It's an incredible season to live here and I feel blessed. This is a photo I took a few years ago at a friend's house.
